Dr. Waite is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry (1979) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine (1983). He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at UAB and remained to become Professor and Charles A. McCallum Endowed Chair of Oral Surgery in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Waite has been the Chairman from 1993-2020 and serves on the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation Executive Committee, and enjoys a full scope faculty practice. Dr. Waite has lectured on the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) both nationally and internationally. He has been an examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was the first oral and maxillofacial surgeon to become President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. He was one of the first to publish on maxilla-mandibular advancement for obstructive sleep apnea and simultaneous rhinoplasty in orthognathic surgery.
His clinical interest are in orthognathic surgery, cleft reconstruction, facial cosmetic surgery, TMJ, dental implants and dentoalveolar surgery. He is a co-editor for Peterson’s Principles of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
